With my Spanish classroom calendar I kept counting the days until Sofía's arrival. We had 18 days left, but on Thursday, we went to the hospital just to be safe. We just wanted to be safe, but thought we would probably be going home that night (so I could take my finals and write a paper). After an ultrasound, it appeared that the liquid levels in the uterus were low, so we'd be staying to induce labor. Isaac went home to get our bags and Reba helped him get some essentials.
Well, inducing labor isn't as quick as you'd think. We're incredibly grateful because St. Mary's philosophy is super patient, not rushing, and letting me eat and shower when possible. Friday morning I was not any more dilated, so we started on Pitocin, with the hope of not using any pain meds no matter how bad the contractions got. They increased it until 20 milliunits, and I had some really good contractions, but sadly, I wasn't any closer to labor at the end of that. Sofía reacted great to all these changes. Her heart rate was steady and "happy" the whole time, so we're glad she's responding well to the contractions. After that, I was happy to get off the pitocin, get food and get a great night's rest.
Now let's talk about yesterday's fun: My sister Carolina arrived from Kilgore, TX at 9:30am. Reba came after work around 2pm and my father-in-law Ralph arrived from Dallas, TX around 4pm. That was the max of visitors and frankly a full house. I'm surprised at how sweet all the nurses were even though we were all in their way. We entertained ourselves by chatting, watching some of the office, and watching Robin Hood - the old one with Kevin Cosner.
After we found out nothing would happen that night, everyone went home, Isaac went to get me food and we got to hang out alone for a bit before he also went home to sleep. Poor thing has been battling an ugly cold for the past four days. We've been overwhelmed with offers of help, prayers, meals, acts of service. We are so grateful for the amazing community of friends around us, ready to meet our needs. We are so happy to share this special moment with such a wonderful group of people.
Alright now, I'm about to shower, eat and get checked to see if I made any progress during the night on this other medication. Then, we'll probably get back on pitocin with hopefully more succes. We hope todays' the day, so keep praying!
